{"id":30076,"date":"2025-01-24T14:17:54","date_gmt":"2025-01-24T14:17:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fairlabor.org\/?p=30076"},"modified":"2025-02-19T17:06:20","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T17:06:20","slug":"fla-and-aafa-reiterate-need-for-sustainable-partnership-with-bangladesh-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fairlabor.org\/fla-and-aafa-reiterate-need-for-sustainable-partnership-with-bangladesh-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"FLA and AAFA reiterate need for sustainable partnership with Bangladesh industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"rich-text section\" data-dc-animate>\n    <div class=\" fade-animate \"  data-dc-animate-ref=\"fadeBlocks[]\">\n        \n\n<p>In a joint brand delegation this week in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the Fair Labor Association (FLA) and the American Apparel &amp; Footwear Association (AAFA) urged government and the Bangladesh industry to focus on improving worker rights for a successful Bangladesh garment, footwear, and travel goods industry now and in the years to come.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delegation consisted of representatives from FLA, AAFA, Columbia Sportswear Company, KMD Brands, VF Corporation, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ready-made garment sector in Bangladesh has a unique opportunity to address the long-standing issues that impact worker\u2019s livelihoods, such as the wage-setting process and reforms to the labor law,\u201d said&nbsp;<strong>Shelly Han, executive vice president at the Fair Labor Association<\/strong>. \u201cWe look forward to supporting these advancements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are united around shared goals for a more competitive, socially responsible, and sustainable industry in Bangladesh,&#8221; said&nbsp;<strong>Nate Herman, AAFA senior vice president of policy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FLA\/AAFA delegation follows a&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bd.usembassy.gov\/u-s-concludes-historic-labor-delegation-visit-to-bangladesh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">November 2024 delegation<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;organized by the U.S. Department of State\/U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also follows a joint letter from September 2024 that reads in part, &#8220;The Fair Labor Association (FLA) and the American Apparel &amp; Footwear Association (AAFA) applaud the interim government\u2019s focus on reforming local labor laws to align with International Labor Organization (ILO) standards.
