Over lunch, FLA staff and select members and partners discussed resources, tools, and initiatives that support companies in understanding and addressing risks in upstream supply chains; shared best practices and case examples; and explored how collaboration and collective actions can move the needle on some of the most serious and systemic issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">**********<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-inherit-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e823a5f4296c3ced83b584ceae669949\"><strong>In-Person Roundtable: Dialogue and Knowledge Exchange for Civil Society and NGOs on Bangladesh and Living Wage (by invitation only)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wednesday, February 12, 2025 \u2013 1:30 p.m. CET<\/strong><br>Unions, civil society organizations, and non-government organizations joined FLA, Awaj Foundation, Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation, and GIZ to discuss collective efforts to bring more transparency and advocacy on labor rights reform in Bangladesh. Represented were organizations such as Anker Research Institute, Arisa, Better Buying Institute, Center for Child Rights and Business, Ethical Trading\u00a0Initiative, FairWear, Fashion Revolution, Goodweave, ILO, ILO BetterWork Bangladesh, IndustriALL,\u00a0the International Trade Union Confederation, Labour Behind the Label, \u00d6z \u0130plik \u0130\u015f, Social Accountability International, and Wage Indicator Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants were invited to share knowledge and goals on projects and programs related to the topic and country \u2013 including learning from FLA and GIZ on its case study project on living wage in Bangladesh, wage trends from FLA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairlabor.org\/about-us\/fair-compensation-toolkit\/\">Fair Compensation Toolkit<\/a>, complaint-resolution channels, and experiences in engaging with workers and data analytics from other organizations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This session also included time to discuss how the latest minimum wage update, current political transition, and advocacy efforts to support better labor standards in the garment industry and the priorities set by the workers and employers in Bangladesh<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">**********<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-inherit-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7de51df63b7208b61bb29f83c8edaad4\"><strong>Virtual Side Session: High Risks and Important Opportunities in the Indian Cotton Sector<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thursday, February 13, 2025 \u2013 3:30 a.m. ET | 9:30 a.m. CET<\/strong><br>In a session focusing on the need and the opportunity for the apparel sector to address high risks of child labor and forced labor in raw materials, Transparentem presented its investigation on organic and conventional cotton farms in India, discussed the actions taken so far by Indian suppliers and dozens of global apparel companies, and called more companies to action. Beginning in October 2023, Transparentem reached out to 60 international buyers whose supply chains were potentially connected to investigated farms. Almost half of those companies have joined together with the Fair Labor Association (FLA) to prevent and respond to labor abuses in the region of Madhya Pradesh, India, where Transparentem\u2019s investigation took place. Through case studies of two GIZ-funded projects led by FLA in partnership with GIZ\u2019s Initiative for Global Solidarity and Partnership for Sustainable Textiles, participants explored the gap between legal minimum wages and living wages, and how responsible purchasing practices\u2014such as fair pricing, long-term partnerships, and predictable order volumes\u2014can help bridge this divide.
